How to make a PSU (Power Supply Unit) from an xbox 360 power cord
By rking425
What is a PSU
Basically all the psu does is takes the 120 volts of ac electricity and converts it to 12 volts of dc at 14.2 amps.
You can use this psu to supply power to basically anything made for use in vehicles or that operates off of batteries at 12 volts. For instance i have mine powering my car amp to power my subs which are currently hooked up to my ps3.
What you'll need.
- wire strippers
- xbox 360 power supply (power cord)
- heat shrink
- soldering iron and solder
How its done
- you will need to get rid of the end of the cor that plugs into your xbox, cut off the wire directly behind the cylinder.
- strip off about 3 inches of the gray insulation.
- you will get 8 separate wires; 3 yellow, 3 black, a blue, and a red. the yellow are your power and the black are ground and the blue and red are for the power enable.
- strip off approximately 1/2 inch off each wire
- twist the 3 grounds together and twist the 3 powers together then solder the ends to keep them from coming apart.
- now you can have the option to either twist the red and blue wires together or you can add an inline switch by crimping on stakeons then connecting them to the switch enabling you to turn the psu from standby to on.
- then you just connect you power and ground appropriately to the device your trying to power and plug in your newly made psu
